sue aldred - song lyrics

lubetkin

lubetkin makes my kind of art.
lubetkin speaks to me from the heart.
when people vandalised his monument
he'd never take offence from what they meant.

he kept 200 spare heads of Lenin in the basement
so he could put a new one out instead.

corner store

in the corner store
shelves are almost empty
little boys roaming in vain
looking for their tongues delight.
mrs basra stands talking
as if there were a tomorrow.

in the dusty street
we walk along together
arm in arm the three of us
thinking of the past.
johnny entertains us
with his beautiful voice.

though he is old and white-haired
head shorn in the shortest of styles
he will hold me close as we walk
my head against his heart.
johnny you're my father
remind me i am loved.

after I had this dream
just a few weeks later
no sign of mrs basra
in the corner store
only boarded windows
and a blackened door.

carole-anne

carole-anne, carole-anne
the horses are free in the meadow.
your beautiful greys are mysterious beasts
palamino and moonlight shadow.

they are free in the buttercup dusk
and close in the knee-high grasses
they are waiting for you to come
waiting for you to come.

carole-anne, carole-anne
the sunset is spreading its vapour
with the colours of night and the sweetness of dark
and the indigo hush on the water.

and the whole of creation is still
like the moment before the curtain
we are waiting for you to come
waiting for you to come.
