lyric
diggers
the brown field’s
arid carpet
a red sun diving for cover
and past the digger’s caravan
the track peters out in a whisper.
the rutted track coming
back from sister’s
one evening in the month of september
i was overtaken by starlings
a flock of geese made their clatter.
with nothing to keep
me either
but the memory of a brother
would the diggers disinter him
so many decades later?
but they are sifting
for some hard information
for marks and signs of a previous era.
they keep their excitements for objects
and coins to examine for data.
the brown field’s
arid carpet
a red sun diving for cover
but i can find no relic of that wanderer
so i search the sky for an answer.
